To solve the problem of data transmission on single-lamp monitoring system for airfield lighting, an integrated communicational solution based on wireless sensor networks and GPRS/GSM technology is put forward. Three main hardware modules of consisting of the system, microprocessors, RF module and GPRS/GSM module, are described. This paper focuses on introducing the software design of the communicational module and construction of platform of the monitoring system. The system achieves airfield lighting inspection automation and can real-time monitor the running status of lighting equipment. The key technology, point to multipoint communication, is discussed in this paper. Results of the test show that the system can stably and reliably transmit data, and satisfy requirement of the airport for automatic inspection of airfield lighting. Single-lamp monitoring system for airfield lighting based on wireless communication technology can enhance the safeguarded capacity of airport ground.
